Omupra
A shopping platform I built and ran for local businesses, and the project that taught me the most.
What it was
Omupra was a shopping platform I built and ran to connect local customers with local businesses.
What happened
It worked! I took Omupra from an idea to a real, running platform and looked after every part of it myself, and that taught me more about building products than anything else.
What I learned
Building Omupra taught me that great software is only half of a product. Finding customers, making the numbers work and keeping sellers happy were just as hard, and I loved learning all of it!
Working directly with sellers and partners changed how I explain my work. They didn’t care what was under the hood, only whether it would help their shop. I also had to learn the side nobody teaches you as a developer, from terms and conditions to email consent.
Payments taught me the most. A provider cost more than I wanted to spend, so I built my own confirmation flow to check every transfer by hand. Making calls like that, with limited money and nobody else to hand them to, is what I carry into everything I build now.
